CARNWEAR X FORGOTTEN FISH

Extract from Carnwear.uk

Newlyn Harbour: a clear, calm pool of turquoise waters in the bright and hazy morning light. Glassy reflections bounce back bold, primary colours from Newlyn's fishing fleet as the boats rest poised after busy periods at sea. A picturesque setting to meet with Rich Adams, founder of Forgotten Fish and Argoe, to discover more about his work which is bringing attention to the underatted and more unusual species and cuts of fish that are harvested locally in our seas, with the view to preventing waste in the industry.

"I've kind of worked around Newlyn most of my life. My family's business is in fish wholesale. My granddad on my mum's side and my dad started a business in the 80s, Trelawney Fish, and so all my life I've kind of known that. I've just grown up around it... it definitely becomes part of you.

Probably when I was younger I thought I couldn't think of anything worse than going back into anything fish related.  But having then spent some time away from Cornwall you come back and there's just a bit of a fondness for it."

Rich founded fish restaurant Argoe in 2021, with a view to honouring the fishing heritage of Newlyn and the diverse produce that is drawn locally from the sea here. Forgotten Fish is a parallel wholesale business, promoting a nose to tail approach to consuming fish by supplying chefs and restaurants with these more unusual cuts or species.
